Long Time, No Post…

Well,  it has been a very long time since I’ve written anything here, and a lot has happened.  I’ve been back in the USA for about 2 months now, butI’ll be going back to Korea before long.  I’ve been training in San Antonio, TX   as a Preventive Dentistry Specialist,  aka a dental hygiennist.   It hasn’t been too bad.  I consider training a vacation from normal life.  I prefer the shorter 2 and 4 week training sessions.  3 months is just a little too long.  You get sick of seeing the same people every day.   On the other hand,  the last 6 weeks of this training is almost like a job.  I’ve been seeing patients for the last two weeks and although I still take longer than I should,  I like to think of it as being more thorough than necessary.    I’m getting faster, and more comfortable with handling the instruments.  I’m starting to trust myself.  The experience is why I’m here.  I want as much experience handling instruments and dealing with patients as I can get before I go to Dental School.  I think this is all good for me.  When I get back to Korea,  I will start taking college classes again and hopefully get myself prepared to apply to grad school when my contract is finished.  Anywho,  I’m going to try to write here more often,  (again…)  but I can’t really promise anything.  Life is busy…  lots to do, but no free time to do anything but sleep…  and maybe that’s a good thing.

A Night in Osan

I just got back from Osan AB.  I had a pretty good time actually.  I went out the their “ville” and had a couple drinks.  It was dead tonight.  On the bus ride there,  I was leaning up against the window staring through the glass.  I love to watch the fields roll by.  It’s peaceful.  I couple stare out the window for hours.  I actually do.  When I go to Seoul, it’s a two hour bus ride, and I usually watch out the window the whole time.  Korea is a beautiful country.  I love the hills of Virginia and Tennessee, but Korea is different.  The hills are so much further away, leaving this long flat stretch of rice paddies leading up to the base of the hillsides.  Usually, there are apartment buildings or something in between the hillside and the highway, but sometimes, you catch a glimse of just the landscape.  I love Korean cities too.  So much more exciting than the American cities I’ve seen.  People are always awake, and always moving around.  Korea never seems to sleep.  I’m starting to wonder if San Antonio will be as exciting for me this time around, after having been here in Korea.  I guess we’ll see.  At least I’ll have the anticipation of going home to keep my blood warm.
